In line with broader industry trends, sales of luxury light trucks outpaced passenger cars in September. Over the course of the month, 3,256 Mercedes-Benz vehicles were retailed, including 1,763 SUVs and 1,493 cars. Notably, sales of the GLE SUV grew by 18.6% compared to September 2017, while the S-Class family saw an overall increase of 26.7% over the same period.

The company delivered 32,747 passenger vehicles in the first nine months of the year, including 17,177 SUVs and 15,570 cars. Year-to-date sale volume was bolstered by the ongoing popularity of the C-Class Sedan, the GLC SUV and the GLE SUV. In terms of year-over-year growth, the GLE SUV (+22.6%), the E-Class Coupe (+32.4%), and the S-Class Sedan (+16.3%) all saw healthy increases.

With 566 units retailed in September (representing a +12.1% growth over September 2017), the Mercedes-Benz Vans division was able to report best-ever third quarter results. In all, 1,710 units were delivered for an 8.7% increase over the same period last year. Year-to-date, 5,197 vans have been sold, representing a growth of 8.4% compared to 2017.

28 smart for two vehicles were delivered in September.

The Mercedes-Benz Pre-Owned division continued its upward trajectory with best-ever September sales results for pre-owned and Certified Pre-Owned vehicles. A total of 1,690 pre-owned units were retailed (+7.2% over September 2017), of which 1,293 units were Certified Pre-Owned (+7.2%). Between January 1 and September 30, 13,735 pre-owned units (+4.4%) and 10,647 Certified Pre-Owned units (+1.8%) were delivered.

"We have concluded the third quarter in a strong position, despite a temporary shortage of inventory," says Brian D. Fulton, President & CEO of Mercedes-Benz Canada. "Demand for our products remains high and I am pleased that now, as our model year 2019 vehicles continue to arrive steadily in showrooms across the dealer network, we are in a much better position to meet it."
