CSA appoints new Secretary General

MONTREAL, Sept. 17, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - The Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) today announced the appointment of Laura Belloni as Secretary General, effective September 17, 2018.

Before taking on this role, Ms. Belloni served as Manager of Regulatory Affairs and Policy Manager at the CSA for a period of 10 years. As such, she was responsible for managing regulatory and policy development initiatives and numerous other projects.

As Secretary General, Ms. Belloni will be responsible for managing and supervising the activities of the Secretariat. She will also coordinate the implementation of the CSA strategic plan and ensure that its objectives are achieved. She will replace Kim Lachapelle, who was recently appointed Vice-President, Strategy, Risks and Performance at the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF).

"We are pleased to have someone of Laura's calibre take over as Secretary General. She has intimate knowledge of all the matters of interest to the CSA," said Louis Morisset, CSA Chair and President and CEO of the AMF. "Her appointment will ensure continuity and success for all of us."

Before joining the CSA in 2007, Ms. Belloni was Legal Counsel and Policy Advisor at the AMF, where she provided legal advisory services on various securities law-related matters and conducted extensive research on comparative law matters regarding international securities and regulatory frameworks. Prior to 2002, she practiced business law at Argentina's largest mergers and acquisitions and full-service firm Marval, O'Farrell & Mairal, where she advised international and local clients on various cross-border business transactions. Ms. Belloni holds a law degree (LL.B.) from the Universidad de La Plata (Argentina) and a Masters in International Law (LL.M.) from the University of Ottawa. She is licensed to practice law in Argentina and Quebec. She is also a member of the Project Management Institute (PMI).

The CSA, the council of the securities regulators of Canada's provinces and territories, co- ordinates and harmonizes regulation for the Canadian capital markets.
