Attorney Jason Webster Files Suit in Dram Shop Action Against Humble Handi Stop

HOUSTON, Sept. 12, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Trial lawyer Jason Webster, founder and principal attorney of The Webster Law Firm, recently filed a lawsuit (Case No. 2018-58461, filed in the District Court of Harris County, Texas) on behalf of the family (plaintiff) of a deceased minor. The lawsuit claims that the defendant, Gumaro Campos of the Humble Handi Stop, allegedly and knowingly sold four bottles of alcoholic beverages, known as MD20/20, to the 17-year-old minor.

According to court documents, the minor allegedly completed the purchase without showing any identification and exited the store. He proceeded to drink until intoxicated.

In the early morning of July 25, 2018, the intoxicated minor drove his passengers, two high school friends, southbound on the 18300 block of Timber Forest Drive, Atascocita, Texas. Due to the intoxication, court documents allege, the minor was unable to stay in a single lane and traversed onto the raised center median hitting a tree. Both passengers suffered fatal injuries. The intoxicated minor survived.

The lawsuit focuses on Humble Handi Stop and Mr. Campos' violations of the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Code's prohibition against selling alcohol to minors. Since this tragedy occurred, a joint investigation by the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, the Harris County Sheriff's Office, and the Harris County District Attorney's Office has led to the arrest of the driver and the seller, Mr. Campos. The driver has been arrested and charged with two felony counts of intoxicated manslaughter, while Mr. Campos has been arrested and charged with a misdemeanor for selling alcohol to a minor.
