Advanced Ingredients Supports FDA Guidance Identifying Resistant Dextrin As A Dietary Fiber

MINNEAPOLIS, July 2, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Advanced Ingredients® applauds the recent announcement by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to recognize resistant dextrin as a dietary fiber under U.S. Labeling Law. The FDA guidance serves as confirmation of our long-standing position of the tremendous benefits of fiberSMART® soluble fiber syrups and powders.

Clean Label Fibers, Binders and Humectants

The FDA announcement was in response to a joint citizen petition requesting the addition of resistant dextrin/maltodextrin to the list of dietary fibers accepted under U.S. Labeling Law. In 2015, the FDA issued new Nutrition Facts labeling regulations for food and supplements to be implemented by January 1, 2020. The new rule stipulates dietary fibers are defined as naturally occurring fibers that are intrinsic and intact in plants, or as isolated or synthetic fibers that have demonstrated a beneficial physiological effect.

Dr. Susan Cho, President of NutraSource says, "We commend the FDA's decision to classify resistant dextrin as dietary fiber. Since 70% of Americans do not meet recommended dietary fiber intakes, we believe that the addition of dietary fiber ingredients, such as fiberSMART®, will improve public health by helping Americans meet their goals for dietary fiber. Resistant dextrin may help to improve gastrointestinal regularity and glucose metabolism while enhancing satiety."

Non-GMO Project Verified® fiberSMART® Soluble Corn and Organic Tapioca Fibers are the ultimate clean label resistant dextrin ingredients for superior machinability, consistency and low water activity.
