250,000 Climate Neutral Orders - E-commerce Printer Onlineprinters Reaches Milestone

LONDON, June 21, 2018 /PRNewswire/ --

Online print shop Onlineprinters has reached an important milestone with a quarter of a million carbon neutral print orders. In 250,000 cases, customers deliberately chose to offset the carbon emissions generated by producing their order by sponsoring a climate protection project. Since Onlineprinters introduced carbon neutral production in 2013, they have been able to offset 7,900 tons of carbon. This is equivalent to the carbon emissions a car would produce if it were to travel all roads worldwide: just under 32 million kilometres.

Carbon neutral printing at a mouse click

"The figure of 250,000 is sensational. This shows that our customers want to act sustainably and that Onlineprinters promotes environmental protection," CEO Michael Fries comments. Due to the sheer number of orders, the online printing business model in particular allows printed advertising material to be produced in a resource-saving manner since the machines can be utilized efficiently. But still carbon emissions cannot be eliminated completely. So customers can offset the unavoidable amount of carbon when ordering in the online shop by contributing less than one percent of the purchase price to fund one of several climate protection projects of their choice such as reforestation or the promotion of renewable energies.

Holistic climate protection strategy

In cooperation with ClimatePartner, an ID and a QR code are generated for the ordered product so that the order details become transparent for the end customers, too. "We provide our IT solutions to nearly 1,000 print shops in Europe. Since 2013, this has offset carbon emissions of well over 1,000,000 orders through climate protection projects. Onlineprinters alone produced 25 % of all its orders in a carbon neutral manner, making the company a role model for the industry," Moritz Lehmkuhl explains; he is the Managing Director of ClimatePartner. The recent certification according to the French Imprim'Vert ("green printing") eco label confirms the climate protection strategy of Onlineprinters in further stages along the production chain.
