Hydro One Remote Communities Inc. wins 2018 ENERGY STAR® Regional Utility Award

THUNDER BAY, ON, May 29, 2018 /CNW/ - Natural Resources Canada presented Hydro One Remote Communities Inc. (Hydro One Remotes) with the prestigious ENERGY STAR Canada Award for best Regional Utility at its award ceremony held in Ottawa. The award is given to utilities that have shown leadership and innovation in developing and marketing ENERGY STAR certified products and for raising the profile of ENERGY STAR.

Hydro One Inc. (CNW Group/Hydro One Inc.)

"We're very proud to be given this award and would like to extend congratulations to all the other winners," said Kraemer Coulter, Managing Director of Hydro One Remotes. "We're committed to helping our customers be more efficient with their power use and save money, and our Mail-in Rebate program achieves both of these objectives by offering rebates on energy-saving products. We'd also like to thank the housing staff and tribal councils of the First Nations communities that we serve, who helped make this program a success."

Hydro One Remotes, a subsidiary of Hydro One Inc., generates and distributes electricity to 3,600 customers living in 21 isolated communities in northern Ontario. Hydro One Remotes encouraged reduced energy usage through a Mail-in Rebate program to customers promoting the purchase of ENERGY STAR certified appliances. A total of $22,850 in rebates have been issued since 2014 and the number of successful applications has increased by 73 per cent since 2016.

This is the second time the award has been presented to the Hydro One brand as Hydro One Networks Inc. was the proud recipient of last year's ENERGY STAR Canada Award for best Regional Utility.
