Media advisory: OPSEU/SEFPO members will rally to protect public services and stop Premier Ford from funding CEOs

TORONTO, April 24, 2024 /CNW/ - On Friday, hundreds of OPSEU/SEFPO members will take to the streets of downtown Toronto in a march to protect public services.

This week, the union is holding its biggest convention yet - with roughly two thousand delegates from across the province gathering in Toronto from April 25-27th to elect their top leadership and shape the union's work for the coming years.

Elections for the positions of the union's President and First Vice-President/Treasurer will be held on Friday morning. Following the election, convention delegates will be joined outside the convention centre by other OPSEU/SEFPO members and community allies for the march.

Our message to the Premier: OPSEU/SEFPO members are fighting back!

When: Friday April 26 at 12pm (noon)

Where: Members will gather outside the Metro Toronto Convention Centre then march to an LCBO location for speeches

Who: OPSEU/SEFPO members and community & labour allies

Right now, LCBO workers are in bargaining and fighting for their futures. The LCBO generates roughly $2.5 billion in annual revenues that go directly towards public services, including health care and education.

Ford's "alcohol everywhere" plan will just mean more profits for big grocery chain CEOs and less public services for the rest of us.

LCBO workers are proud of the service they provide Ontarians every day. In this round of bargaining, they're not just fighting for fair wages and good jobs. They're fighting to protect all public services in every corner of this province.

OPSEU/SEFPO leadership and spokespeople from the LCBO bargaining team will be available for comment.
