Women's Health Awareness 2024 Marks 10-year Milestone of Transforming Communities by Enhancing Women's Health

RALEIGH DURHAM, N.C., March 20, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- The Women's Health Awareness (WHA) 2024 Conference marks a decade of enhancing the health of women and communities of color in North Carolina. The free annual event offers health screening, services and environmental health education. The annual event will be held Saturday, April 13, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Those who pre-register before March 25 will be provided with a complimentary lunch.

Health experts will present up-to-date information on topics of interest to women from the conference location at Hillside High School in Durham, North Carolina. Sessions span environmental health, environmental health justice, and behavioral health. Topics also include cancer, diabetes, autoimmune disorders, and reproductive health. Mental health specialists will address mindfulness and stress reduction. The WHA conference continues to provide Spanish-language resources to promote health resiliency for Hispanic and LatinX communities.

Every year, the conference reaches new urban and rural communities with limited internet access. Organizers have partnered with public health and community-based organizations to share WHA programming in new satellite locations statewide including the Mountain Area Health Education Center in Asheville and the Creedmoor Community Center in Creedmoor.

The Office of Human Research and Community Engagement, led by Joan Packenham, Ph.D., at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS)/National Institutes of Health (NIH) serves as lead sponsor. Co-sponsors include Durham Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Durham Alumnae Delta House, Inc., and the North Carolina Central University Department of Public Health Education.
