FRENCH BULLDOG REIGNS SUPREME IN SAN FRANCISCO

Nationally, French Bulldog Holds On To The Top Spot

NEW YORK, March 20, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- Once again, the French Bulldog took San Francisco's top spot in the American Kennel Club's (AKC®) 2023 ranking of the most popular AKC-recognized dog breeds in the U.S.

The French Bulldog was also recognized as the #1 pup in Cleveland, OH, New York, NY and Honolulu, HI.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniels gained favor in San Francisco, jumping five spots from 9th to 4th, while Pembroke Welsh Corgis dropped out of the city's top five, going from 4th in 2022 to 8th in 2023.

"The Frenchie may be number one in San Francisco, but the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel made quite a jump in popularity," said AKC Executive Secretary Gina DiNardo.  "It's no wonder, since the sweet, gentle Toy breed does equally as well with athletic owners or those with a more sedentary lifestyle."

San Francisco's top 5 breeds for 2023:
