Media technical briefing and press conference on the new bill entitled An Act to enact the Online Harms Act, to amend the Criminal Code, the Canadian Human Rights Act and An Act respecting the mandatory reporting of Internet child pornography by persons who provide an Internet service and to make consequential and related amendments to other Acts


The Government of Canada will share information on new legislation to combat the sexual exploitation of children and other online harmful content, and to hold social media services accountable for how they keep Canadians, especially kids, safe on their platforms.

GATINEAU, QC, Feb. 23, 2024 /CNW/ - Officials from the Department of Canadian Heritage and the Department of Justice will hold a technical briefing for media on the new bill entitled An Act to enact the Online Harms Act, to amend the Criminal Code, the Canadian Human Rights Act and An Act respecting the mandatory reporting of Internet child pornography by persons who provide an Internet service and to make consequential and related amendments to other Acts. This briefing will take place by teleconference. Officials will be available to answer questions from the media following their remarks.

Later in the afternoon, The Honourable Arif Virani, Minister of Justice, and Attorney General of Canada, will hold a press conference regarding the new bill.
