British Swim School Expands Presence to Northeastern Florida

Peruvian Couple Bring Passion for Swimming and Safety to Their New Home

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Feb. 7, 2024 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- British Swim School, the nation's leading "learn to swim'' franchise, proudly announces its newest location in St. Johns County, Florida. British Swim School of St. Johns-St. Augustine is owned and operated by husband-and-wife team Carlo Bellatin and Nancy Linares. They are located within the LA Fitness at 11250 Old St. Augustine Road Jacksonville, FL 32257 with lessons on Tuesday through Thursday and Saturdays.

"How to survive in water is something basic that every child must know."

The couple became franchise owners and moved to the United States in late 2023 from Peru. Nancy's priority is the safety skills taught by British Swim School. "Children are naturally curious. In Peru, people gather in places with pools, and you only need to be distracted for one second and if the child doesn't know how to swim something terrible can happen," said Nancy. "How to survive in water is something basic that every child must know."

Carlo is a lifelong ocean enthusiast who grew up swimming in the Pacific and participating in open water tournaments. "I've always been close to the sea and loved the waves," he said. "Swimming is not just a sport for me; it's a way of life."

For over 40 years, British Swim School has been dedicated to teaching water survival skills by teaching infants, children, and adults of all ages the skills needed for water acclimation, water survival, and stroke development. Its mission ? ensure that every person, regardless of age or ability, has the opportunity to become a safe and happy swimmer.

Across the nation, eleven people die every day from unintentional drownings, with nearly 4,000 deaths occurring each year. Research shows that participation in formal swim programs, such as those offered by British Swim School, can reduce the risk of drowning by 88% among children who are most at risk for deaths caused by drowning. However, the risk of drowning isn't limited to children: a Red Cross survey found that more than half of all Americans (54%) either can't swim or don't have the basic swimming skills needed to save themselves in the event of a water emergency.

Ashley Gundlach, President of British Swim School, shared her enthusiasm about the new franchisees. "Nancy and Carlo's unique blend of passion for swimming and business acumen is exactly what we look for in our franchisees. Their commitment to teaching life-saving skills will undoubtedly make a significant impact in St. Johns County and parts of Jacksonville."

Lessons will begin this month and will be taught at the LA Fitness at 11250 Old St. Augustine Road in Jacksonville.
