Local Dental office steps forward to show its support for our Veterans

Dr. Shivaprasanna Rai, local Dentist from Stafford, VA, joined many Colleagues from all across the country during special leadership conferences hosted by MGE: Management Experts, Inc. in Florida. The training session included topics to increase one's altruistic responsibility for the welfare of one's community. One of the guest speakers was from DC Strategic Solutions, Mr. John Spagnola, who advocated for the health and welfare of veterans.

STAFFORD, Va., July 24, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The horrific statistics of veteran suicides and the 10 years plus of unchanged veterans suicide deaths were brought to light during this presentation. Mr. Spagnola pointed out that the vast majority of the veterans do not undderstand the side effects or that treatment options available to them. He added that this was in large part due to misunderstanding, that verbal consent is adequate to apply to black box medications such as Anti depressants, Stimulants and opiods. "That's fine for Aspirines or Tylenol but not the highest risk medications", Spagnola stated. "We must take every conceivable step imaginable to protect and fully inform our veterans", he added.

Written Informed consent should improve their health outcomes and make it more likely for the veterans to be involved in their treatment plans. The conference then played a short clip of a NewsMax interview Mr. Spagnola had with John Bachman, which provided statistics and solutions to help these warriors.

It was shocking to Dr. Rai that our veterans don't typically have these opportunities to select their treatment modalities and increase their chances for improvement for a better life. This was also the consensus of his peers at the conferences. The need for written Informed consent was so obvious that they all stood shoulder - to - shoulder to ensure that this issue becomes a reality.

The support provided Mr. Spagnola assisted his work with Veterans, including his work with the American Legion. One result was a resolution in support of written Informed consent being approved by the National Executive committee of the American Legion, May 10-11,2023, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Resolution No. 18: Written Informed Consent.

Dr. Rai pointed out to his colleagues that it is up to us to demonstrate the leadership needed to improve the health and welfare of our communities. These veterans are willing to give all for us- so we can at least support causes that support them.
