Review of on-street parking in Saint-Laurent - I find my place in Saint-Laurent!

SAINT-LAURENT, QC, March 14, 2023 /CNW/ - Saint-Laurent is planning a review of on-street parking regulations in order to optimize the use of spaces and thus make it easier for everyone to find a spot. This approach will promote safe travel and improve the quality of life of Saint-Laurent residents. The deployment will be done progressively starting in May 2023 and the interventions should continue until 2027.

The goal is to enable high mobility for the entire population and create sustainable, safe and engaging multi-modal experiences.

A public information meeting will be held on Monday, April 3, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. at the Mairie de Saint-Laurent (777, boulevard Marcel-Laurin). This meeting will also be broadcasted online. Details available at montreal.ca/saint-laurent

"We want to improve the safety of active commuting as a continuation of our pedestrian plan launched in 2020. The review of parking in Saint-Laurent will help us achieve this, notably through better visibility at intersections. By offering more parking periods in certain neighbourhoods, we are also taking into account the needs of telecommuters. Finally, this will improve the efficiency of snow removal and street maintenance operations, thereby enhancing the quality of life of our residents. We will be consulting with them to find the best parking solutions in the neighbourhoods around certain REM stations in Saint-Laurent."

Alan DeSousa, Mayor of Saint-Laurent

The strong growth of Saint-Laurent's population on an ever-developing territory, telecommuting and the opening of five REM stations on the territory starting next year are creating new challenges.

As safe travelling is a priority for Saint-Laurent's Administration, it aims to optimize parking rules on its public property by taking these new realities into account in collaboration with the populations concerned.

Three types of actions will be taken starting this year:

This regulatory review is part of the borough's strategic planning, specifically axis 4, which aims to promote sustainable mobility.

About the borough of Saint-Laurent

A city established in 1893, Saint-Laurent became one of Montréal's 19 boroughs in 2002. Located north of the island of Montréal, Saint-Laurent is the largest borough of all, with its 42.8 square kilometres. Its population of over 100,000 is one of the most multicultural. With the borough having become a "sustainable municipal territory" in 2019, its Administration places sustainable development?and environment protection, in particular?at the heart of all its decisions: a challenge that is all the greater since more than 70% of its territory is devoted to industrial and commercial activities, with over 4500 companies and 110,000 jobs. In fact, it is home to one of Québec's main industrial and technological hubs. Already boasting great accessibility to the main highways and public transit, Saint-Laurent is getting ready to welcome 5 train stations within the new Réseau express métropolitain (REM) light rail network. And last but not least, with Saint-Laurent's two libraries, its Centre des loisirs (recreation centre), its modern Complexe sportif, its arena and some 50 parks, a wide range of services are offered in many areas of activity, such as culture, sports and recreation. In this way, Saint-Laurent's Administration ensures a high quality of life for families living in the borough as well as a stimulating environment for businesses.
