Entry Island - Cap-aux-Meules Ferry - Pilot project: A third Friday sailing to launch this week

QUEBEC CITY, Oct. 18, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - Société des traversiers du Québec (STQ) is pleased to announce that it will be adding a third sailing to the Entry Island ? Cap-aux-Meules ferry route on Fridays, starting this week. The ferry will depart from Cap-aux-Meules at 12:30 and return from Entry Island at 13:30.

This new round trip will be trialled as part of a pilot project in response to the needs expressed by residents of Entry Island and Cap-aux-Meules. When the pilot project ends on December 22, STQ will begin to assess the results on vehicle and passenger numbers and operational impacts.

This is the second new service to be added in the last two weeks, following STQ's announcement on October 5 that a Sunday sailing would be added as part of the same pilot project, boosting service to seven days a week.

Reservations are required
Please note: as with the Sunday service, all clients, foot passengers and drivers must reserve their sailing before 4 p.m. the previous day (Thursday). The new Friday sailing will not go ahead if no reservations have been made by the cut-off time.

Please also note: there will be no 30-minute layover between the docking of the MV Ivan-Quinn at Entry Island and its return to Cap-aux-Meules.

Changes to Friday deliveries
For the duration of the pilot project, it will no longer be possible to send or receive deliveries via the 15:00 sailing on Fridays when the 12:30 sailing goes ahead. Only basic goods deliveries will be allowed on this sailing. This decision was made based on the time constraints involved in operating a third sailing on the same day.

However, if no reservations are confirmed and the 12:30 sailing does not go ahead, deliveries will be allowed on all sailings, as is currently the case.

To enable all clients to plan their deliveries, STQ will issue an alert shortly after 4 p.m. every Thursday to let them know whether or not the new Friday sailing is going ahead.
