The 11th Annual 102.5 WDVE Rocks for Children's Radiothon Raises Record-Breaking Amount

PITTSBURGH, Sept. 26, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The 11th Annual DVE Rocks for Children's Radiothon raised a record-breaking $852,539 in support of UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. The two-day radiothon broadcasted live from UPMC Children's Hospital on Sept. 20 and 21.

The DVE Rocks for Children's Radiothon raises vital funds that enable UPMC Children's to provide the highest level of care to each patient when they need it most.

"We are extremely grateful for the tremendous support from WDVE and its listeners who have generously donated year after year to UPMC Children's Hospital," said Rachel Petrucelli, interim president, Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation. "Through this event, nearly $6 million has been donated to the hospital over the past 11 years. This showcases how Children's will always be supported by the Pittsburgh community."

The 102.5 WDVE on-air personalities, including Randy Baumann & the DVE Morning Show, which includes Bill Crawford, Val Porter, and Mike Prisuta, as well as Michele Michaels, and Sean McDowell, all broadcasted stories from patients, families, and staff live from UPMC Children's during the two-day event.

"The DVE Rocks for Children's Radiothon continues to exceed our expectations," said Tim McAleer, Market President for iHeartMedia Pittsburgh-West Virginia. "WDVE has terrific listeners in the Pittsburgh community who rally for the kids, and I am in awe of the DVE talent with their dedication and effort they put forth, which is reflected by this year's record setting donations."

Special guests at the event included Pittsburgh Steelers offensive tackle Alejandro Villanueva and former Pittsburgh Penguins player Colby Armstrong.

The radiothon also featured a "Pens Hour" that brought in over 370 new Rock Stars, monthly donors who pledge to give $10 or more in giving to the Foundation. During that hour, Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Brian Dumoulin, former Pittsburgh Penguins player Bryan Trottier, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, former Pittsburgh Steelers player Brett Keisel, and comedian Billy Gardell, all made donations by phone.

The radiothon also featured live performances from Scott Blasey of The Clarks, Paul Luc, and The Commonheart.

Last year's radiothon raised $814,000.
