The STEM Connection Announces Grants Totaling $27,500
INDIANAPOLIS, Sept. 25, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The STEM Connection received grants totaling $27,500.00 from The Indianapolis Foundation, Greater Historic Traders Point, Lilly Company Foundation, Lilly Endowment Inc. and The Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust.
The STEM Connection is a non-profit corporation aimed at facilitating outdoor and hands-on science, technology, engineering and math experiences year round at Moore Road Farm and other educational sites. The STEM Connection 30 acre outdoor learning site at Moore Road Farm is in the Traders Point Rural Historic District conveniently located on the northwest side of Indianapolis. The ecosystems of the farm include deciduous forest, Eagle Creek, fields of crops and a garden open for exploration and learning. Programming is connected with ongoing conservation projects that honor the land and waterways of Indiana and seeks to grant access to those underrepresented in the STEM fields.
Summer Programming encompasses ten weeks including; Summer Camps, Field Trips for other Marion County summer programs, STEM@Nights on the farm for youth and Family Engagement Opportunities as well as STEM trainings for area youth program workers. All programming is based on the 2016 Indiana state science standards, Indiana Afterschool STEM Specialty Standards and Indiana's Environmental Literacy Guidelines. Daily and weekly themes provide participants with many opportunities to work with science tools, experience outdoor fun, work in the garden and explore the habitats and ecosystems of the farm as they become citizen scientists and service learners. Participants hike, plant, observe, create, play, and experiment while gaining new experiences, mastering science content and making connections to the natural world.
Currently, over 4,000 children and adults are served yearly through The STEM Connection programming which includes year round field trips, clubs, summer camps, professional development and traveling STEM experiences.
