U-Haul® will soon be showcasing its second retail and self-storage facility in Jackson thanks to the recent acquisition of the former Kmart® store at 732 Old Hickory Blvd.

U-Haul acquired the 95,028-square-foot building on Aug. 22. U-Haul Moving & Storage at Old Hickory Blvd. is currently operating out of a temporary showroom and offering truck and trailer sharing, towing equipment, moving supplies and U-Box portable moving and storage containers.

Adaptive reuse of the property will render about 60,000 square feet of indoor self-storage, giving customers access to climate-controlled rooms with high-tech security features at affordable price points. Propane and professional hitch installation will also be offered on the 9.83-acre lot in the near future.

Contact U-Haul Moving & Storage at Old Hickory Blvd. at (731) 256-6932 or stop by to see our progress. Hours of operation are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday. Reserve equipment at uhaul.com or contact Reservations at 1-800-GO-UHAUL.

"We are eager to put our adaptive reuse program to work in Jackson," U-Haul Company of Memphis president Chris Hardin said. "I've seen many big box stores close and stay dark for years, so I'm excited for Jackson residents to see life breathed into this old Kmart. Our reuse of this building will be positive for U-Haul, the environment and our neighbors."

The recent acquisition of the Kmart property was driven by U-Haul Company's Corporate Sustainability initiatives: U-Haul supports infill developments to help local communities lower their carbon footprint. Our adaptive reuse of existing buildings reduces the amount of energy and resources required for new-building materials and helps cities reduce their unwanted inventory of unused buildings.

"We're still in the planning phases, but we hope to be fully operational (offering self-storage) in early 2019," Hardin added. "Time is everything. We want our customers to have a convenient place to store their belongings. Jackson is fast-growing and we are pleased to be able to meet the demand for moving and storage products here."

Hardin expects to maintain a staff of seven or more Team Members when the store is completed. U-Haul will look to hire locally to promote job growth within the Jackson community. U-Haul always encourages local contractors to bid on construction work.
