Local U Helps Fund Second Annual Celia Bell Entrepreneur Awards

AUSTIN, Texas, Sept. 21, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Local U sponsors the second annual Celia Bell Entrepreneur Awards, culminating in an awards luncheon on September 24, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. at the Canyon View Event Center in Austin, Texas. The ceremony will recognize three winners, awarding a small business a prize of $5,000, and start-up and non-profit prizes of $1,500 for each category.

The Celia Bell Entrepreneur Awards recognize the long-standing support and influence of local entrepreneur and SCORE Austin mentor, Celia Bell, who will present closing remarks at the luncheon. The event also features remarks from SCORE National Chief Executive Officer Kenneth Yancey, Local U Faculty Member and CEO of New Orleans based Search Influence, Will Scott and an honorary presentation from Founder and President of Amy's Ice Creams Amy Simmons. A panel of nine judges from the local business community will announce the winners in each category during the luncheon.

"I wanted to make the awards something that, as I get older and am no longer able, will still be there so that other people can have this opportunity," said Bell. "These awards don't sound like a lot of money, but for a small business, they mean a lot. "

Local U has partnered with Celia Bell since 2011 to organize and host educational seminars for small business owners in the Austin, Texas area. Local U donates a percentage of all ticket sales from their seminars and events directly to the Celia Bell Entrepreneur Awards.

"All of our events in Austin literally could not have happened without Celia. She's just been a fantastic resource and partner to Local U," said David Mihm, owner of Tiding and co-founder of Local U. "On a personal level, she is the friendliest person you will ever meet, a hoot to be around, and a fantastic colleague to work with?in addition to becoming a friend."
