Environmental Commitment: NSK makes additional strides to improve their Global footprint

ANN ARBOR, Mich., Sept. 18, 2018 /CNW/ -- Manufacturers need to take extra care in their processes and manufacturing procedures to assure that they are not negatively impacting society and the environment. Many associations and organizations exist to help plants and other facilities to set goals and assist with improving processes in order to obtain those goals.

NSK has been a contributing partner with EPA Waste Wise since 2009. By joining this voluntary national reporting organization, NSK has helped create less waste through recycling. Coupled with waste prevention, plants can decrease purchasing costs and the amount of materials needed to manage for recycling. Waste prevention offers the greatest environmental benefits and provides substantial cost savings to organizations as well as a positive environmental impact. NSK has established three set prevention goals: reduce, reuse and donate or exchange. Examples include using reusable dunnage, returning drums and totes to chemical suppliers to reuse for like product shipped back to an NSK site. NSK manufacturing facilities are also active participants in Better Plants, an initiative of the U.S. Department of Energy. Better Plants objective is to improve energy efficiency and competitiveness in the industrial sector, while saving money. Through Better Plants, partners like NSK voluntarily set a specific goal, typically to reduce energy intensity by 25% over a 10-year period across all their U.S. operations. NSK conducted baseline audits of all 7 US plants in FY17. In FY18, the plan is to evaluate recommendations resultant from the assessments and implement, monitor and evaluate their impact.

With partnerships such as these, NSK continues to make major improvements on the foot print left on the environment.  In FY17 NSK's environmental impact and recycling efforts equated to

NSK is an ISO 140001:2015 certified.  This certification will support and provide leverage for NSK to continue to make strides for environmentally prosperous FY18.
