Air Georgian and OWHA Partner, Encouraging Women in Hockey to SOAR

MISSISSAUGA, ON, Aug. 20, 2018 /CNW/ - Air Georgian's Sharing Opportunities for Advancement and Reward (SOAR) program continues to grow with the addition of the Ontario Women's Hockey Association (OWHA). This partnership fulfills the aviation awareness focus of SOAR by promoting the rewarding opportunities aviation offers women in organized sports.

Air Georgian CRJ First Officer Samantha Mincone played hockey growing up, and later found her passion for flying following an Air Georgian initiative educating female hockey players about the similarities between playing hockey and life as a pilot. (CNW Group/Air Georgian Limited)

"We're very excited to join the SOAR family," said Fran Rider, President and CEO at OWHA. "We focus on creating opportunities for women, and this partnership will help us further develop our mission. By providing girls with early awareness of the aviation industry we hope they will recognize their potential to make a difference in a male-dominated field."

"Team sports like hockey help young women develop talents and skills they can apply in the workplace as they grow into the leaders of tomorrow," said Julie Mailhot, COO at Air Georgian. "Female youth hockey players are powerful examples of those working to break down gender barriers and overcome gender bias. We're eager to partner with OWHA to support these women by opening doors in aviation and providing opportunities for them to achieve their best as their careers soar."

SOAR
SOAR focuses on developing partnerships to create defined career pathways for prospective or current pilots. SOAR's initiatives include raising awareness of careers in aviation, working with organizations to recruit pilots, and providing career fulfillment and advancement opportunities for employees.
