/R E P E A T -- Media Advisory - CMPA information session addresses physician wellness/
OTTAWA, Aug. 16, 2018 /CNW/ - The Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) will host its Annual Meeting and Information Session on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The theme of this year's Information Session is "Healthier physicians: An investment in safe medical care."
Healthcare is facing a crisis of well-being that impacts patients, providers, and the sustainability of the system as a whole. Studies show that burnout?which is the most commonly reported and consistently measured form of psychological distress?occurs in a third to over a half of North American physicians.
The Information Session will extend the critical conversation around physician wellness. We know that physician burnout:
increases costs to the healthcare system, leads to poorer quality care, and makes accessing care more difficult
is the "canary in the coalmine" and indicates problems with the work environment
reflects system-wide problems, highlighting the need to invest in system-wide change to improve physician wellness.
PANEL:
Dr. Todd Watkins, Managing Director, Physician Services, CMPA (moderator)
Dr. Carol-anne Moulton, Associate Professor, University of Toronto, and Staff Surgeon, Division of General Surgery, University Health Network
Dr. Scott McLeod, Registrar, College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta
Dr. Hartley Stern, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer, CMPA
Location: The Fairmont Winnipeg, 2 Lombard Place, Winnipeg, MB R3B 0Y3 Date:Wednesday, August 22, 2018 Time: Annual Meeting?1:30 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. / Information Session?3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
