KOMPAN Awards Five Matched Funding Grants

AUSTIN, Texas, Aug. 2, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- KOMPAN announced the winners of the Matched Funding Grant campaign. KOMPAN's first "Let's Play for $50K!" campaign aimed to help communities and schools in need of an innovative, inclusive play space or interactive fitness area. The grant asked campaign entrants to provide information as to how the playground or fitness area would make a difference to their users and what changes or improvements would be needed to transform the community space.

Grant Recipients
City of Boynton Beach ? Florida
The City of Boynton Beach wants to continue their mission of accessible programs and amenities with a playground from KOMPAN. The playground will serve "For the Love of Surfing," a program developed by Future 6 Helping Hand Fund, Inc., which brings together families and volunteers to teach children with special needs how to surf. In order to enhance collaboration with community groups, Boynton Beach wants to install a new playground at Oceanfront Park, where the lessons take place.

Trust for Public Land ? Camden, NJ
The Trust for Public Land is working to decrease the amount of crime and quantity of people below the poverty level in Camden, New Jersey. To this goal, The Cooper's Poynt Family School will serve as the first green schoolyard demonstration site in the Parks for People-Camden program. The program intends to turn barren into bold with new play equipment, gardens, basketball courts, as well as porous pavement and seating. The layout will encourage learning through play with design for site users of wide-ranging abilities.

Hawthorne Scholastic Academy ? Chicago, IL
Hawthorne Scholastic Academy is in the heart of one of Chicago's most vibrant neighborhoods. The outdoor space they want to create will provide powerful opportunities for hands-on learning, nurture students' physical, social, and emotional development and wellbeing, reflect local ecological, social and cultural context. The project will transform the space into a place for all to gather, learn, and grow, from the diverse student population to the surrounding community.

Metro Deaf School ? St. Paul, MN
The Metro Deaf School serves Deaf and DeafBlind students from over 30 school districts. Research shows a disproportionate access to health, wellness, and fitness for Deaf and DeafBlind children and adults. Metro Deaf School is moving to a new facility and is working to create a community center serving Deaf, DeafBlind, and the neighboring general communities. The playground will balance gross motor activities, social opportunities, and imaginary play.

Jacob Roger Poulin Foundation ? Ellington, CT
Jacob Roger Poulin was diagnosed with and passed away from brain cancer at the age of five. The vision for J4cob's Park is that any child would be able to enjoy it, whether in perfect, thriving health or wheelchair-bound. The goal for J4cob's Park is for it to be as inclusive as possible "because everyone should get to play." ? Jacob Poulin
