The Government of Canada Supports the 16th Festival de musique émergente en Abitibi-Témiscamingue

ROUYN-NORANDA, QC, July 18, 2018 /CNW/ - The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage, and the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED), today announced that the Government of Canada is providing funding to Collectif 08 for the 16th Festival de musique émergente en Abitibi-Témiscamingue (FME).

Canadian Heritage is providing $50,000 to Collectif 08 through the Canada Arts Presentation Fund. This support will allow them to create a diverse and exciting lineup featuring the talent of up-and-coming artists and bands.

CED is providing total funding of $190,125 over three years (2018, 2019, and 2020) in the form of a non-repayable contribution under the Quebec Economic Development Program. The funding for 2018 ($63,375) will help market the festival outside Quebec and promote tourism in Abitibi-Témiscamingue. This will allow FME to draw visitors from around the world, and the benefits that this tourism brings will boost the region's economy.

Quick Facts

The 16th edition of FME will take place from August 30 to September 2, 2018. Every year, close to 30,000 people take part in the festival in Rouyn-Noranda.

Collectif 08 is the organization that runs FME. Its mission is to help disseminate original music and to promote Canadian musicians and bands at home and abroad.

Optical illusion shows?presented in cooperation with the Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue?and a virtual reality garden will let visitors enjoy virtual and augmented reality music projects. Interactive activities will be offered in partnership with Montréal's Phi Centre.
