DAN Boater Releases New Travel Health and Safety Guide for Musculoskeletal Injuries

DURHAM, N.C., July 17, 2018 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- DAN Boater, one of the most recognized names in travel safety, proudly introduces How to Manage Musculoskeletal Injuries While Traveling, the first in a series of new travel health and safety guides authored by the medical professionals at DAN. These free first-aid and traveler preparedness guides are written for recreational cruisers, sailors, and adventure travelers in an effort to raise awareness about good travel health and safety practices.

The organization elected to launch the series with information on musculoskeletal injuries, since this issue is one of the most commonly reported among recreational boaters. According to the the US Coast Guard's most recent annual report on boating accidents, Recreational Boating Statistics 2017, nearly 27% of all boating-related injuries were primarily musculoskeletal in nature. Examples of some of the injuries cited in the report included broken bones (479 incidents), dislocations (52 incidents), and sprains/strains (144 incidents).

How to Manage Musculoskeletal Injuries While Traveling offers user-friendly tips on preventing musculoskeletal injuries, properly identifying these injuries when they do occur, and rendering first aid ? as well as on-going care ? for the injured area. Most important, the guide offers clear direction on when to seek treatment from medical professionals.

This first guide is available online at https://danboater.org/travel-health-and-safety/how-to-manage-musculoskeletal-injuries-while-traveling.html. It is also available in PDF format for download to mobile devices.

Additional guides will be released throughout 2018 and will be available to the public at https://danboater.org/guides.html.

DAN Boater is actively seeking opportunities to provide these guides, free of charge, to boat and yacht clubs, sailing and cruising associations, yacht charter companies and boating/boating safety educators. For information on how to obtain copies for your customers or club members, visit https://danboater.org/share.html or contact DAN Boater directly at 1-919-225-3910.
