Robert Teweleit pledges support for Houston SPCA

HOUSTON, July 13, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- As a lifelong animal lover, however, and on a more personal level, a cause particularly close to Teweleit's heart is the Houston Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or Houston SPCA.

Generously donating both funds and time to the organization, Teweleit is firmly committed to his local animal rescue shelter. Not only has the organization grown to be the largest of its kind in Texas, but it's also now the largest on the entire Gulf Coast. Backed by donors and volunteers such as Teweleit, the Houston SPCA strives tirelessly to help ensure that no animal of any shape or size is abused or otherwise exploited.

Staffed predominantly by a dedicated team of volunteers, Houston SPCA is run independently from the national ASPCA or American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Indeed, it's the independent nature of the charity which led the Texan animal lover to pledge his support in the first instance. "The tax-exempt, nonprofit, charitable organization relies entirely on donations and local volunteers," he explains.

Teweleit continues, "In just the local area, Houston SPCA investigated 7,000 cases of animal abuse, neglect, and cruelty last year. During the same period, they also performed another 7,000 spay, neuter, and life-saving medical procedures and surgeries."

In total, Houston SPCA records reveal that the organization helped some 50,000 animals last year alone, including both companion and farm animals, as well as wildlife.

"This," suggests Teweleit, in conclusion, and wrapping up, "is quantifiable proof that the organization is making a huge difference to animals in and around Houston. It's for this reason that I will continue to pledge my support to the cause, both through charitable donations and by volunteering my time."

Houston SPCA regularly shelters more than 1,000 animals at any one time. A donation of just $25 helps toward feeding many of those animals for a day, while a donation of $50 will fuel an animal ambulance ready to attend an emergency. Meanwhile, a contribution of $100 is enough to support an often life-saving surgery for an animal affected by cruelty or neglect, according to the organization.
