2U, Inc. Partners with the University of Denver Daniel Felix Ritchie School of Engineering & Computer Science to Deliver a New Online Master's in Data Science Program, DataScience@Denver

DENVER and LANHAM, Md., July 13, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- 2U, Inc. (Nasdaq: TWOU), a global leader in education technology, today announced a new partnership with the University of Denver Daniel Felix Ritchie School of Engineering & Computer Science (the Ritchie School) to deliver DataScience@Denver, a new online Master of Science in Data Science program. DataScience@Denver is scheduled to begin in 2019 and represents a new Domestic Graduate Program for 2U.

Data is being generated at an unprecedented rate, and its explosive growth is spurring organizations to employ skilled individuals to harness, unpack, and draw insights from vast amounts of new data. Nearly all industries are using insights gained from big data to inform strategic and business decisions. It is the role of the data scientist to build the statistical and analytical tools that to process, make sense of, and translate these complex data sets.

"Data drives today's economy, and professionals with strong data science skills will be in high demand by organizations of all types for the foreseeable future. Continuous innovation is essential for nearly every modern organization, including institutions of higher education, where we are training and preparing students to succeed in an ever-evolving workforce. The University of Denver is thrilled to partner with 2U, the leader in education technology, to offer an innovative online master's in data science program," said JB Holston, dean of the Ritchie School of Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Denver.

The DataScience@Denver program is designed for students to build the tools to help companies, governments, and nonprofits make better decisions with data. Students can expect to learn and develop comprehensive data science skills and knowledge, including programming, algorithms, machine learning, data mining, parallel and distributed systems, and data management. In addition to being taught how to use the existing statistical and analytical tools necessary for evaluating and interpreting data, students will also be taught how to build new tools that facilitate the use of data in making critical research, policy, and business decisions. Typical roles for graduates with a Master of Science in Data Science from the Ritchie School on-campus program include data scientist, business analyst, software engineer, and business intelligence director.

The coursework will be reinforced with practical, hands-on projects with opportunities to apply data science skills to real-world problems. Students will also participate in in-person gatherings known as immersions on the university campus where they will engage in learning simulations and hackathons while networking with peers, faculty, and industry experts.

"The University of Denver is a forward-thinking university with a strategic vision for serving students and delivering education in the 21st century," said 2UGrad President Andrew Hermalyn. "We're so pleased to expand our partnership by adding the Ritchie School of Engineering & Computer Science as the fourth DU graduate school to work with 2U."

The Ritchie School launched its on-campus Master of Science in Data Science program in 2017 to meet the field's growing demand. DataScience@Denver will match the quality and rigor of that program, and DataScience@Denver students will receive the same degree as their on-campus counterparts. Ritchie School faculty will teach DataScience@Denver students through weekly live classes and faculty-developed interactive coursework on an online platform that works seamlessly on mobile devices so students can complete their coursework from nearly anywhere.

In addition to DataScience@Denver, 2U also powers MBA@Denver, MSW@Denver, and Morgridge College of Education Online.
