Washington Express Movers Targets an "under-serviced" commercial market

WASHINGTON, July 11, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The dilemma for small to mid-sized office moves often amounts to a choice of overpaying for a large-scale mover or crossing your fingers with discount movers, according to Washington Express Movers (WEXM), the company determined to be the solution.

The Smart Office Move

As the B2B commercial moving subsidiary of Washington Express, the region's oldest and largest on-demand logistics firm, Washington Express Movers has over three decades experience  specializing in small to mid-size commercial moves, although those were never the primary intended markets.

"This wasn't a niche we created or even identified until we actually started," said WEXM President Mike Miller. "While we can also accommodate larger moves, over 90 percent of our office moves have been for businesses with under 100 employees and/or moves under $5,000. We quickly learned - and we still are learning - the scope and particular requirements of this market segment."

"It was our parent company's customers who opened our eyes to the smaller move office market."

Washington Express, provides logistics services to more than 80 percent of the area's largest law firms, firms who coincidentally have frequent moving requirements - just not full-firm moves. It was a perfect fit for Washington Express Movers. Whether intra-office file transfers, inter-office personnel moves, disposal, warehousing or packing computer equipment it was apparent there was an ongoing need for multiple smaller moves among larger law firms as well as individual attorneys (the DC bar lists over 48,000 practicing attorneys, here).

Additional small move requests for trade events, seminars  and conferences from the more than 2000 Associations represented here, as well as moving and storage services for the 71,000+ private sector D.C. businesses (98.2 percent of all District of Columbia businesses are classified as small businesses*) were growing exponentially to where WEXM realized this was both an under-served and more importantly, under-serviced, market.

A member of the American Moving and Storage Association (AMSA), Washington Express Movers is a logical complement to parent company Washington Express' other services. At the core of both businesses are quick responses, state of the art logistics and tracking systems, and competitive pricing. These similarities opened up opportunities for WEXM with existing Washington Express customers and has filled a void that larger traditional movers haven't addressed.

"Through customer surveys, we found that smaller businesses and smaller commercial moves also had a different set of needs and concerns from larger office moves," Miller said. "They wanted pricing that didn't have high, built-in hourly minimums; estimates that didn't inflate the day of the move; logistical resources to pack and move an office at a moment's notice; real-time technology to track operations and keep customers informed before and during the move; and more flexible, more personal customer service."

Washington Express Movers' staff and operations are tailored for these customers and their priorities.

With Washington Express' operational infrastructure already in place, the moving subsidiary offered something no other local mover could, and it resonated with smaller commercial businesses ? the speed, convenience and security of a local courier combined with the resources of a large scale traditional moving company.

Every moving team member has completed formal training regimens in pre-move communications, preparations, packing and moving. Every employee whether on-site or in the office receives on-going customer service and customer relations training as well. The validation can be seen in pages of website testimonials and high referral rates.

More than just DC, Washington Express Movers serves businesses in Virginia and Maryland, and has a "Move Anything Now" division for time-critical moves, such as conventions and corporate events, anywhere in metro Washington within 2-3 hours.

With a brand that promises "The Smart Office Move" Washington Express Movers is carving out a niche market position employing the logistics and technology along with old-fashioned, personalized customer service to attract businesses that traditional movers don't court and discount movers can't sway.
