REMADE Institute Announces First Project Selections

ROCHESTER, N.Y., July 11, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The REMADE Institute is proud to announce the selection of its first public-private partnership projects focused on driving down the cost of technologies needed to reuse, remanufacture and recycle materials such as metals, fibers, polymers and electronic waste.

The 17 selected projects have a total value of $10 million, comprised of cost-share contribution and $4 million in federal funding. The project teams represent partnerships from 30 organizations across industry, academia, national labs and trade associations.

"There has never been a more important time to address the technical and economic challenges facing U.S. manufacturing. Together with our partners, these projects have the potential to significantly reduce the barriers that prevent greater material reuse, remanufacturing and recycling," says Nabil Nasr, CEO of REMADE.

Founded in May 2017, and partially funded by the U.S. Department of Energy, REMADE is a Manufacturing USA Institute. In partnership with industry, academia and national labs, the REMADE Institute enables early-stage applied research and development of technologies that could dramatically reduce the embodied energy and carbon emissions associated with industrial-scale materials production and processing. Efficiency gained from these technologies have the potential to save billions in energy costs, improve U.S. economic competitiveness through innovative new manufacturing techniques and offer new training and jobs for American workers.

REMADE Institute anticipates a second project solicitation later this summer.
