SportsEngine and NBC Sports Regional Networks Announce "Fair Play - Student Athlete of the Month" Contest Winners

MINNEAPOLIS, July 5, 2018  -- Culminating with the recent coast-to-coast NBC Sports Regional Network premiere of its multi-platform documentary project, Fair Play: Youth Sports in America presented by GEICO, NBC Sports Regional Networks, along with SportsEngine Inc., an NBC Sports Group company, announce the inaugural winners of the "Fair Play - Student Athlete of the Month" contest.

The contest was conducted last month by SportsEngine in partnership with multiple NBC Sports Regional Network markets?including Bay Area, Boston, Chicago, Northwest, Philadelphia, and Washington. Parents and coaches nominated student athletes who best demonstrated determination, perseverance, and dedication, along with serving as a positive influence in their respective communities through their participation in sports and academics.

SportsEngine and each NBC Sports Regional Network, judged their respective region's submissions and chose a winner based on three main criteria: academic performance, athletic performance, and social/community impact.

"The goal of the Fair Play initiative was to shine a light on both the benefits and sometimes difficult aspects of the $15 billion youth sports industry," said Ted Griggs, President, Group and Strategic Production and Programming Leader for NBC Sports Regional Networks. "Among the many aspects of this initiative was to make sure we put a spotlight on student athletes who are making a difference in their communities. We couldn't be more honored to be able to recognize some of these great kids, who will no doubt be making an impact in our society for many years to come."
