TORONTO, June 29, 2018 /CNW/ - It's shaping up to be a hot summer! Escape the heat at the Ontario Science Centre with five new experiences that will keep you active, captivated and inspired to learn more.
Adults and children alike can keep curiosity alive and explore new and diverse worlds ? from underground to outer space and from the depths of the oceans to Sichuan treetops and the sky-high visions of futurists. From pop-culture to pandas to particles, there's something to spark everyone's curiosity.
To ensure visitors make the most of long summer days, the Ontario Science Centre's summer hours will be in effect from July 1 through September 3. The Centre will be open from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Saturdays and until 5 p.m. the rest of the week.
Get started with these experiential game-changers that are sure to spark the inner adventurer in everyone:
1) POPnology: Yesterday's Fantasy is Today's Reality (Closes August 6)
Here's your chance to get nerdy and geek out! Test drive robotics, rovers and revolutionary sci-fi inspired tech. Learn how pop culture inspires how we connect, move, play, live and work and how books, movies and games have inspired the world's greatest technological innovations.
Join Qian Qian, a panda on an exciting new adventure in the mountains of Sichuan as she takes her first steps outside her protected habitat, discovering her true animal nature...even as she faces the challenges of the unknown.
3) Oceans: Our Blue Planet (On now)
Embark on a global odyssey through the largest and least explored habitat on Earth. Revolutionary ocean science and technology has allowed scientists to go further into the unknown than was ever thought possible. From the coastal shallows to deep and mysterious worlds, discover untold stories of the oceans' most astonishing creatures
Learn about the science that brought you neon lights, lasers, MRI scanners and GPS tracking. Delve into the research stories behind quantum mechanics, information technology, and the future of quantum. Videos, games and multi-level interactive activities will challenge your understanding of the world as you know it.
4) New Eyes on the Universe (Opens August 18)
Step into the world of a story that is still unfolding. The Sudbury Neutrino Observatory lab (SNOLAB) is virtually opening its doors to the public to see the experiments that are currently underway two kilometres below the Earth's surface, providing new insights and pushing frontiers in particle astrophysics.
