Pela, Save The Waves Propel Plastic Free July

A simple lifestyle switch that will help reduce plastic in our oceans

TORONTO, June 28, 2018 /PRNewswire/ - Pela, creator of the world's first zero-waste, compostable phone case, has partnered with coastal conservation organization, Save The Waves, in advance of Plastic Free July.

Pela's business model is built around producing environmentally sustainable and beautifully designed products. The company's first line, Pela Case, is made from a patented biopolymer called Flaxstic®. The phone cases are built to fully biodegrade and can be easily composted, setting a new standard in sustainable-plastic consumer products. Plastic Free July imagines a world void of plastic waste. As Pela's mission is to build a future without waste, Pela Case is an easy lifestyle switch that can help everyone make the change.

Save The Waves, a coastal conservation group, is a proud supporter of innovative eco-friendly products and Pela's product aligns perfectly with its mission - to protect and restore the integrity of the world's coastal environment and create a plastic-free world.

To commemorate Plastic Free July, Pela is donating 5% of gross sales on select phone cases to the organization in support of Save the Waves' efforts to protect and restore the world's coastlines. Pela is also a proud member of the 1% For The Planet initiative through which it donates one percent of its sales to nonprofit environmental organizations.

"Everyone has a role to play in bettering the environment, no matter how small. Our mission is to create durable and eco-friendly products that provide customers an alternative to traditional plastic products," said Matt Bertulli, CEO, Pela. "Pela Case is the first of many products that we envision an easy switch from plastic to more sensible materials. We're aggressively pursuing new materials and new products because that's how we get to our vision of a future without waste."

More than 400 million pounds of plastic are used to manufacture in excess of one billion-plus plastic phone cases every year. The average phone case lasts less than two years before it is thrown away, making its way into a landfill. The zero-waste compostable phone case is helping to put consumers one step closer to a plastic-free future, one case at a time.

About Pela
Pela is comprised of a team of nature-loving entrepreneurs building a passionate, global community committed to creating a waste free future. The sheer volume of plastic in the world's oceans is out of control, and the repercussions will be felt for generations to come if we don't collectively take action. Pela believes that we must push for sustainable products to become the new standard for our world to be a better place for our families and the generations to follow. We know living an eco-friendly life is not always easy in today's world and that's why we believe in doing better. The world's first fully compostable phone case aims to produce less waste, one cover at a time.
