The Government of Canada Supports 39th Festival International de Jazz de Montréal
MONTRÉAL, June 28, 2018 /CNW/ - Today, the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage, along with the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED), announced that the Government of Canada is supporting the 39th Festival International de Jazz de Montréal from June 28 to July 7.
Canadian Heritage is granting $1 million in funding to the festival through the Canada Arts Presentation Fund. This support will give visitors prime access to an eclectic lineup of shows by world-renowned artists, many of them free.
CED has taken the occasion to note its support for the Festival's 2017 and 2018 editions. The $1,374,750 in funding, in the form of a non-repayable contribution under the Quebec Economic Development Program, will serve to market and promote the Festival abroad, attract tourists and boost the local economy.

Founded in 1980, Festival International de Jazz de Montréal will take place this year from June 28 to July 7. It expects to draw two million visitors to its 39th edition, a 10-day event with 20 stages and more than 500 concerts, three quarters of them free.
This year's Festival has two major outdoor free events: Toronto's Jessie Reyes, Juno Award-winner for Breakthrough Artist of the Year (July 3); and American quartet The War On Drugs, Grammy winner for Best Rock Album (July 7). Headliners will also include George Thorogood and The Destroyers, Ludovico Eineudi, Ani DiFranco, Seal, Charlotte Gainsbourg and many others.
CED is one of six regional development agencies under authority of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development. This year marks the 50th anniversary of regional economic development in Quebec: a half-century of commitment and action to help regions and local businesses prosper and thrive.
