Visit Beauharnois generating station: A fun, free outing for the whole family

BEAUHARNOIS, QC, June 18, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - This summer, why not visit Beauharnois hydroelectric generating station in Montérégie?

Discover a majestic generating station with Art Deco architecture and a unique design. Construction of the one-of-a-kind project began by pick and shovel more than 80 years ago.

Exceptional since 1932
A designated national historic site, Beauharnois is Hydro-Québec's most powerful run-of-river plant and one of the biggest in the world. Every second, enough water flows through it to fill three Olympic-sized pools. With its 38 generating units spread out over nearly a kilometre, it plays a key role in Hydro-Québec's grid. Come and take a closer look at this remarkable site!

Improved interpretation centre
The newly renovated interpretation centre at Beauharnois offers an amazing experience. The centre, done up in keeping with the overall Art Deco style of the generating station, includes a huge exhibition room, a modern amphitheatre and an observation gallery with an unforgettable view of the powerhouse and Lac Saint-Louis.

The ABCs of how electricity is generated
Our guides are great at explaining scientific concepts clearly and simply. They'll be delighted to tell you all about the history and geography of the generating station. You'll discover how a run-of-river powerhouse works by seeing a generating unit in full operation. The whole family will be impressed!
