Free guided tours: Carillon generating station opens its doors for the summer

SAINT-ANDRÉ-D'ARGENTEUIL, QC, June 18, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - This summer, Carillon generating station and its guides await you for a most rewarding visit! You'll discover the mysteries of the most powerful hydropower generating station on the Rivière des Outaouais (Ottawa River), right on the Québec-Ontario border.

Impressive capacity

With its 14 generating units, Carillon can supply about 150,000 homes. You'll feel the hum of 753 MW of power capacity beneath your feet and see a transmission shaft rotate at a speed of 97.3 rpm. You'll explore the powerhouse in the company of a lively, knowledgeable guide.

Turning point in history

Built between 1959 and 1964 to meet the growing demand for electricity in the province, Carillon was the first generating station designed by Hydro-Québec's French-speaking engineers. Innovative from the outset, it remains a source of inspiration to Québec consulting engineers.

Enchanting setting

The nearby Carillon park and Carillon Canal national historic site are great places to have a picnic and soak up the history of this stunning site. The powerhouse's functionalist design is in keeping with its setting, in a way that had never been seen before.
