Extraordinary weekend of camping on the banks of the Lachine Canal National Historic Site

Parks Canada delighted by strong interest for the Learn-to camp program in Montreal

MONTRÉAL, June 17, 2018 /CNW/ - Parks Canada welcomed more than 150 new campers to the Lachine Canal National Historic Site for this weekend's Learn-to camp overnight event. The program, offered in cooperation with MEC, helps new campers acquire practical skills such as how to pitch a tent and build a campfire, and also features fun activities to encourage them to connect with nature. Another highlight of this memorable weekend was Andréanne A. Malette's exclusive musical performance around the campfire.

For those who did not have the opportunity to take part in this unique experience in Montreal, two other overnight events will be held this summer, on July 14 and August 11. Those interested are encouraged to reserve their tent quickly as spots are limited. Parks Canada is also continuing to work with La Tournée FEU DE CAMP to offer performances by Laurence Castera on July 14, and Céleste Lévis on August 11.

Parks Canada's six Learn-to camp hubs, including Montreal, are back in 2018. In addition to overnight camping events, free Learn-to camp experiences for day camp groups and community organizations will also be offered in Montreal throughout the summer. For more information about dates and locations, visit the Lachine Canal's website.

Developing new and innovative programs and services, like Learn-to camp, enables more Canadians, including youth and newcomers, to experience the outdoors and learn about our environment and heritage. The Learn-to camp program encourages Canadians to visit their national parks and historical places and provides them with the information and means to enjoy them.
