2018 AJAC EcoRun: Moncton-Saint John-Fredericton

Journalists put fuel-efficient vehicles to the test on the East Coast!

MONCTON, NB, June 12, 2018 /CNW/ -The 7th annual EcoRun, hosted by The Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) is coming to the province of New Brunswick.

On June 21, twenty of the most highly-respected journalists from across Canada will be arriving together in Moncton to participate in AJAC's EcoRun, a fuel-efficient driving event which showcases the latest and greatest offerings from a broad spectrum of automakers. Over the course of two days, those journalists will be piloting 20 eco-friendly vehicles ranging in size, which include pure electrics, plug-in and conventional hybrids, hydrogen fuel cells, diesel-fueled powertrains and highly-efficient gasoline options.

To start the drive an opening ceremony will be held at 8:00 am on Thursday, June 21 at Moncton City Hall featuring the Mayor of Moncton Dawn Arnold, who will wave the ceremonial green flag. From there, the journalists will test various vehicles throughout southern New Brunswick including Sussex, Snider Mountain, Saint John, New River Beach and Saint Andrews, eventually ending the journey in Fredericton on Friday, June 22.

The total drive will cover 560 kilometres with strategic stops for its existing charging infrastructure, road terrain, scenery and activities offered.

In the face of high gas prices, consumer demand and the desire for more environmentally-friendly vehicles, automakers are answering the call with more fuel-efficient and top-performing vehicles year after year. EcoRun demonstrates to Canadians the latest in those fuel-efficient technologies to help inform consumers of alternative vehicle options, as well as providing real-world accurate fuel economy road tests.

"With over 90 percent of vehicles on the road being gasoline or diesel powered, it's important that internal combustion engines continue to improve and deliver the affordability, reliability and efficiency that Canadians expect," explains Peter Boag, president and CEO, Canadian Fuels Association. "It's also why, as the association representing refining in Canada, Canadian Fuels is pleased to be a part of EcoRun once again this year."

Journalists who will be covering the event represent a host of top automotive publications from across Canada that include: The Globe & Mail, Toronto Star, Le Guide de l'auto, AutoTrader.ca, CAA, Driving Television and TSN's Motoring TV, to name a few. As always, the event will be capped off with the unveiling of the Canadian Fuels Association Green Jersey winner ? awarded to the eco-friendliest driver throughout the event.

The 2018 AJAC EcoRun is being supported by its main partners: Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), Canadian Fuels Association, CAA Atlantic Club, Michelin North America (Canada) Inc., NB Power and Tourism New Brunswick.
