Cadillac Fairview Continues to Lead Industry through Advanced Data Analytics and Building Certifications

Company achieves industry-leading certifications for landmark buildings in Canada

TORONTO, May 29, 2018 /CNW/ - Marking a major milestone for Cadillac Fairview's (CF) ongoing journey towards smart building technologies, the company has deployed its transformational Energy Smart Operations (ESO) program in 27 CF buildings across Canada with more to follow this year and beyond.

Improving Building and Sustainability Performance through Intelligence and Optimization of ESO

CF's data-driven ESO platform enables the organization to instill proactive measures for sustainability at CF properties, achieve internal energy reduction targets as set by CF's pioneering Green at Work® sustainability program, extend equipment life, reduce both energy costs and tenant issues, and improve overall performance on building certifications.

"Through the deployment of our innovative ESO platform, we are able to identify opportunities to improve building performance by recognizing anomalies quickly and addressing issues effectively, providing solutions that provide competitive value to our clients," commented Arv Gupta, Senior Vice President, National Operations, Cadillac Fairview. "By leveraging advanced data analytics and energy efficient and smart building technologies, we are able to engage stakeholders to collectively drive change while ultimately reducing climate change causing emissions."

Cadillac Fairview One of First to Achieves ENERGY STAR® Certification for Landmark Buildings in Toronto and Montreal

Building on its ESO program, CF is proud to announce that it has earned ENERGY STAR certification for superior energy performance from Natural Resources Canada. Continuing to demonstrate leadership in energy management and efficiency, CF has become one the first organizations in Canada to receive ENERGY STAR certification at its Yonge Corporate Centre and Simcoe Place buildings in Toronto, and at Tour Deloitte in Montreal.

"Congratulations to Cadillac Fairview, whose buildings were among the first to qualify for ENERGY STAR certification in Canada," commented Jim Carr, Minister of Natural Resources Canada. "Energy efficient buildings play a key role in helping Canada achieve its greenhouse gas reduction commitments and we are proud to recognize organizations that are leading the way."

ENERGY STAR recently expanded to include a new certification program directed to commercial and institutional buildings in Canada. This certification program recognizes buildings that are the top 25% energy performers, based on source energy use that takes into account weather, occupancy, hours of operation, and other key metrics.

LEED Performance Path Adopted to Improve Sustainability Performance

CF has implemented LEED Performance Path, an industry-leading program designed to help organizations measure, manage, and benchmark data to improve sustainability performance. CF is pleased to announce it has been awarded Platinum level LEED certification for several of its buildings through the utilization of the program. CF's HSBC Tower in Vancouver, as well as its buildings at 250 Yonge Street and 20 Queen Street West in Toronto were all awarded Platinum level LEED in their first year of certification, and just recently completed their second year of reporting.

"At Cadillac Fairview, we are proud to continuously build upon and strengthen our corporate responsibility commitments, and we're thrilled to be recognized by the industry for our efforts in sustainability," said Karen Jalon, Senior Director, Sustainability and Energy Management, Cadillac Fairview. "By leveraging the new LEED Performance Path, we are able to significantly streamline our process for LEED certification while improving our performance in the area of sustainability."
