PATCHOGUE, N.Y., May 25, 2018 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Server Bays, a provider of Managed IT services on Long Island, helps businesses beef up their security strategy with five tips.
VoIP, or Voiceover Internet Protocol, has surpassed traditional communication services in functionality and affordability. As a result, many companies have already made the switch to VoIP.
However, while VoIP is an excellent option, it does come with security concerns that need to be addressed. For example, eavesdropping, distributed denial of service attacks, malware and viruses are real threats to VoIP systems. Fortunately, there are a variety of ways to minimize your vulnerability.
To increase the security of your VoIP system, incorporate the following in your security strategy:
Monitor and Backup Your System Frequently. VoIP offers several advantages that traditional phone services do not. However, it's not immune to cyber-attacks. Regular monitoring and backups ensure your system is healthy. So, if you're attacked problems are not compounded.
Encrypted Information. Encrypting data makes it more difficult for hackers to attack your network. It also adds another layer of protection if hackers make it past other security measures. If hackers can't read your data, it's harder for them to use it against you.
Use Multifactor Authentication. Passwords are a must, but they aren't foolproof. It's best to use a multi-step authentication process because it's more secure. A range of options exist for multifactor authentication. Businesses can use passwords and security pins, codes, biometric data, and more.
Use Quality Passwords. It's never advisable to use a password that includes identifying information (e.g., birthdays, names, ages, addresses, etc.). Quality passwords include a mix of letters, numbers, symbols, and upper- lower-cases. The more random the password, the better it is because it's harder to crack.
Educate Employees. Cyber criminals attack the weakest link. So, even one employee who doesn't follow best practices puts the company at risk. Teach employees how to be safe online so that they can keep company information safe.
