MySafeWork's "Courageous" Broadcast Empowers Students to Stand Up To Unsafe Work And Harassment

On April 27th, MySafeWork will hold its second annual "Courageous" live-stream event, educating young people about their workplace rights.

TORONTO, April 26, 2018 /CNW/ - Everyday, workers are killed, injured, and harassed on the job. Young people and other vulnerable workers are most at risk because they are uninformed of their rights and unprepared to ask employers the right questions.

On April 27th, MySafeWork will hold a free live-stream event called "Courageous." Courageous is a 1-hour broadcast that educates students about their rights and empowers them to stand up to unsafe work. The live-stream features inspirational stories and practical advice from safe work experts.

Courageous will be hosted by actor Raymond Ablack, who is best known for his roles on Degrassi: The Next Generation and the Netflix series Narcos.

"Most young people don't think about safety when they go to work. But statistics tell us that they should," says Caleb Ellis, Vice President of MySafeWork.

"The fact is, young people experience workplace injuries, fatalities, and harassment at an alarming rate ? but it doesn't have to be like this. We want to empower a new generation of workers who will take a stand against unsafe work and harassment."

Over 500 schools and businesses from across Canada and around the world have registered to watch the event, which will be filmed in front of a live student audience at The Great Hall in Toronto.

About MySafeWork:

At the age of 18, David Ellis was killed in a workplace accident. He was given limited training and no supervision. It was his second day on the job. After David's death, the Ellis family started MySafeWork, a not-for-profit organization and registered charity.

MySafeWork's mission is to prevent workers from getting injured and killed at work. Since 1999, MySafeWork has reached millions of students with a simple message: don't work for a company that doesn't respect you. At the same time, we inspire companies to achieve greatness in safety culture.
