CargoM hails the Quebec government's 2030 Mobility Policy

MONTREAL, April 17, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - CargoM welcomed the unveiling this morning at the Palais des Congrès de Montréal convention centre, of the Government of Quebec's Sustainable Mobility Policy. This policy aims to plan transportation differently and to ensure that sustainable mobility initiatives take into account, among other things, government orientations, a multimodal vision of transportation and the needs of partners and the municipal community. The policy covers all modes of transportation and all movements of people and goods for every region of Quebec. It addresses public transit, active transportation and freight transport in the marine, air and rail sectors, as well as intervention measures in the road networks, all from an integrated perspective.

CargoM particularly welcomes the choice to favour the internationally recognized "Reduce-Transfer-Improve" approach. This makes it possible to plan the measures to institute according to their capacity to reduce motorized trips, and then via land use planning, to shift travel to more sustainable modes and to improve travel by focussing on energy efficiency. Taking into account the transportation of people as well as goods in the Policy, along with its complementarity with other government strategies and policies, also reflect the coherence and comprehensiveness exercised by the Ministry of Transport, Sustainable Mobility and Transportation Electrification  (MTMDET).

"We enthusiastically note that the new sustainable mobility policy was constructed with transport stakeholders across all sectors combined. With its ambitious objectives, an action plan and means involving all of society, this policy was constructed in co-creation mode with the advisory committee's help. I believe the policy successfully reconciles the issues of transportation, the environment, land use planning and economic development." said the Executive Director of CargoM, Mathieu Charbonneau.

"We are also very pleased that the CargoMobile tool was signalled out in the new policy as one of the measures that help keep freight transport moving in Greater Montreal," said Mr. Charbonneau.
