The Jamboree is coming to downtown Québec City!

Government of Canada reaffirms support for the Jamboree, home of the Snowboard and Freeski World Cup

QUÉBEC CITY, March 22, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED) and Canadian Heritage

Tourism provides excellent opportunities for the country's economic growth and diversification, and major sports events give us a chance to see top athletes in action right here in Canada. With this in mind, the Government of Canada provides financial support for special events with high media coverage that promote an active lifestyle and generate significant economic benefits.

The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED, and the Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science and Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities, announced that $582,500 in financial assistance has been granted to the Corporation événements d'hiver de Québec and the Canadian Snowboard Federation for the Jamboree.

CED is investing $332,500 to promote the 2018 and 2019 Jamborees. The support has been granted to the Corporation événements d'hiver de Québec in the form of a non-repayable contribution, through CED's Quebec Economic Development Program. The funding will go toward national and international television broadcasting of the competitions and tourism vignettes. In addition to showcasing the greater Québec City area on the international scene, this sports competition will create significant media and tourism spinoff.

Sport Canada has awarded $250,000 to the Canadian Snowboard Federation to help it host the Fédération internationale de ski (FIS) Snowboard and Freeski World Cup (2018 Jamboree). This funding was made available through the Hosting Program, and will help 22 carded and 18 non-carded Canadian athletes (anticipated number) take part in this international event.

"Thanks to sports events like the Jamboree, Canada is a key sport destination. I want to welcome all of the athletes who travelled here to take part in this event and compete against the best in their class, thus making this competition a success and helping develop the sport. I also want to wish the Canadian athletes all the best as they perform in Canada in front of their supporters, friends and families."

The Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science and Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities

"It is a pleasure to once again welcome snowboarders from home and abroad and to have people discover Québec City's hospitality and natural beauty. In addition to generating significant media and tourism benefits, our support for the marketing of the Jamboree is helping increase the international reputation of the greater Québec City area. Have a great time, everyone, and enjoy the competitions!"
