Media Advisory - With strike entering third week, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh to join rally in support of striking York University Academic workers


TORONTO, March 15, 2018 /CNW/ - On Friday, March 16, striking academic workers at York University will be joined by student, campus, labour and community allies, as well as Jagmeet Singh, leader of Canada's New Democrats for a rally to mark two weeks of strike action in support of quality education and a less precarious working environment.

Friday's rally will commence at 3:30 p.m., with striking CUPE 3903 members, joined by supporters from a wide range of student and faculty groups, Toronto and York Region Labour Council, labour and community allies converging on the York University Main Entrance, located at 4700 Keele Street.

Mr. Singh is scheduled to speak shortly thereafter. Representatives of the York University Students' Association (YUSA), York University Faculty Association (YUFA), as well as Toronto and York Region Labour Council President John Cartrwright, and representatives of both the Provincial and Federal New Democratic Party are expected to deliver messages in support of the striking CUPE 3903 members.
