The discussion with the Mayor will explore how engaging globally reaps benefits locally, and how Los Angeles is stepping into new global leadership roles through subnational and city diplomacy.

"In Los Angeles, we know global engagement makes us stronger ? that we prosper as a city when we choose to engage with the world," said Mayor Garcetti. "A surging local economy and records set at our port and airport reflect those values of openness and cooperation."

"The State of the Global City is an opportunity to shine a spotlight on Los Angeles as an international powerhouse and discuss the opportunities we have because of the city's global role," said Pacific Council President and CEO Dr. Jerrold Green. "As the Mayor reinforced during last year's address, we are in the Pacific Century and this is an extraordinary moment for Los Angeles."

The discussion with Mayor Garcetti will begin at 7:00pm and will be streamed live at www.pacificcouncil.org/live.

Karen Richardson, former Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of Public Affairs at the U.S. Department of State, will serve as moderator. Attendees will include Los Angeles leaders in politics, finance, law, entertainment, non-profit, philanthropy, and academia.

The Honorable Eric Garcetti is the 42nd mayor of Los Angeles, elected in 2013 and currently in his second term. Previously, he served as president of the Los Angeles City Council from 2006 to 2012.

This event is open to media with advance registration. Please contact Marissa Moran at [email protected] or 213-221-2022 to attend. Registered media bringing cameras or other recording equipment should arrive no later than 5:00pm on March 21.
