LCBO raises funds for Forests Ontario

TORONTO, Feb. 26, 2018 /CNW/ - Starting February 26^th, the public can support Forests Ontario by making a donation at any of the more than 650 LCBO stores throughout Ontario. Donation boxes for Forests Ontario will be displayed at LCBO checkout counters until March 31^st.

The Voice for our Forests

Forests Ontario is the voice for our forests. Our mission is to ensure a greener future by planting healthy and abundant forests across the province. Forests Ontario works with partners to plant and manage three million trees every year. To date, we've proudly planted more than 25 million trees. Forests Ontario also connects more than 10,000 students to nature every year through our forestry education programs. 

The Community That Plants Together Grows Together

2018 will be the third consecutive year that the LCBO has supported Forests Ontario as part of the Provincial Donation Box program. Donations have supported Forests Ontario's annual Community Planting Weekend.

The Community Planting Weekend is a longstanding tradition for Forests Ontario. Every year, this event launches the planting season with a series of plantings across the province in which volunteers from the surrounding community are invited to join us and plant trees in public spaces.

In 2018, we'll be celebrating the 10^th year of the Community Planting Weekend by holding planting events every weekend in the month of May. Support from the LCBO and its customers will help Forests Ontario plant thousands of new trees across participating communities, supporting greater forest cover and important environmental benefits like clean air and water, carbon sequestration, habitat, and shade.

The Community Planting Weekend is one of a broad range of programs delivered by Forests Ontario in support of a greener and healthier future.

"And it's not just our largest forests, but our local parks, ravines, conservation areas, and the trees that line our streets.
