Community Informational Meeting on Opioid Risks, Treatment, and Recovery at AdCare Rhode Island

NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I., Feb. 22, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- To help confront the current opioid crisis, AdCare Rhode Island will host a Community Event on February 28^th at 6 PM.   The free event will feature a presentation on "Opioid Risks, Treatment, and Recovery" by AdCare Rhode Island's Medical Director, Michael Coburn, MD, ABAM.  Dr. Coburn's presentation will focus on effectively treating opioid-dependent individuals with a combination of Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT), Outpatient Counseling, 12-Step and other Community Support.  Information and resources to help family and friends begin to heal from the harmful effects of a loved one's substance use will be available as well.  The Meeting will be held at AdCare Rhode Island, 1950 Tower Hill Road in North Kingstown.

Opioid misuse and overdose is a serious public health problem that affects almost every community in some way.  Fueled by the misuse of prescription opioid medications and illegal drugs such as heroin, the crisis is now exacerbated by fentanyl, a highly potent opioid. Since 2009, the number of overdose deaths related to fentanyl has increased 15-fold in Rhode Island. Last year, there were 257 opioid overdose deaths in Rhode Island.
