Long Island Managed Services Firm, Servers Bays, Explains VoIP
SAYVILLE, N.Y., Feb. 19, 2018 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Expert provider of IT services on Long Island, Server Bays, uses the knowledge they've gained servicing companies to explain VoIP for those who may be considering the option.
Many business owners have heard of VoIP, but don't completely understand it. However, it's a particularly useful service, and several businesses can benefit from using it. To assist businesses, Server Bays breaks down VoIP:
What is VoIP?
VoIP, or Voice Over Internet Protocol, is a phone service that is delivered over the internet. Nearly all businesses require the internet to do business. Since the internet is already a must-have, instead of purchasing the services of a local phone company, many businesses are opting to get phone service delivered through their internet connection.
How does VoIP work?
For VoIP to work, analog signals (traditional phone signals) must be turned into digital signals (the signals that can be sent over the internet). Some VoIP phones automatically do this. Other VoIP options require the use of a separate piece of equipment, such as an ATA box, to accomplish this task. With a traditional phone, the ATA box will convert analog signals to digital signals which will then be sent to the router via an ethernet cable and transmitted to the VoIP service provider over the internet.
Pros and Cons of VoIP
VoIP offers several advantages, including:
The cost of VoIP is usually less than the cost of traditional phone services? Businesses with underutilized network capacities should seriously consider VoIP, because the cost is often significantly cheaper than what traditional phone companies can offer. International calls may also be cheaper.
VoIP has the potential to offer more functionality?calls are receivable anywhere there's internet and a VoIP phone; this means call centers and business professionals can work wherever they have an internet connection and still be able to receive and place calls.
Outbound call center applications can use VoIP.
Businesses, however, should be aware of the limitations that can exist with VoIP:
Not all VoIP services offer 911 service.
A VoIP service may not come with phone directory listing services or 411 services.
