Lithuania's 100 Year Celebration Of Independence

NEW YORK, Feb. 16, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Today marks the 100 year anniversary of the restoration of independence for Lithuania, the southernmost Baltic State, at the crossroads of Scandinavia and Central Europe ? with a complex history that stretches from the 13th century to modern times, beginning after World War I.  For information about the events dedicated to the Centennial, visit http://www.lietuva.lt/100/en.

It was one century ago today, on February 16, 1918, with the signing of the Act of Independence, that the modern democratic state of Lithuanian was born ? with March 11, 1990, marking the restoration of independence after half a century of Soviet Occupation.

After World War I, the emerging Baltic States, previously part of the Russian Empire, declared their Independence in 1918 ? Lithuania on February 16, Estonia on February 24 and Latvia on November 18.
