AMLI Residential's ENERGY STAR® portfolio continues to grow with certifications of five apartment communities in Austin, Texas

AUSTIN, Texas, Feb. 14, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- AMLI Residential, one of the preeminent multifamily developers in the nation dedicated to building environmentally sustainable homes, announced that five of the company's apartment communities in Austin, Texas have earned ENERGY STAR certifications from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ? AMLI South Shore, AMLI at Mueller, AMLI 5350, AMLI Eastside and AMLI 300.

With the addition of these properties, the Chicago-based company now owns and manages 22 communities across the country that have earned ENERGY STAR certification, which signifies that these communities perform in the top 25 percent of similar facilities nationwide for energy efficiency and meet strict energy efficiency performance levels set by the EPA. AMLI's growing portfolio of ENERGY STAR-certified properties is another validation of its mission to create healthy living spaces for residents and to be a responsible steward of the environment.

"In 2017, we made a commitment to reduce our communities' overall energy use by 10 percent from 2015 by 2020," said Phil Tague, President of AMLI Residential. "These ENERGY STAR certifications, and the additional ones we are currently pursuing, push us closer to achieving this goal. To remain a sustainability leader in the multifamily sector, AMLI must continue to look for innovative ways to reduce our energy use."

AMLI's new developments are designed to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certifications at a minimum.  Some new AMLI developments also achieved higher LEED rankings. For example, AMLI at Mueller, the newest of the five communities, is LEED Platinum-certified and Austin Energy Green Building-rated.

AMLI's sustainability team continually identifies cost-effective opportunities to improve energy efficiency at its existing assets through LED lighting retrofits, mechanical system optimization and ENERGY STAR appliances. In addition to effective energy management practices, AMLI's Austin communities incorporate many other environmentally friendly practices, including sustainable landscaping techniques, the use of green cleaning products, community recycling programs and bike repair and storage rooms for residents.

Sustainability at AMLI
AMLI is a leader in multifamily sustainability. Twenty-nine AMLI communities (more than one-third of the company's portfolio) are LEED-certified and 22 AMLI communities are ENERGY STAR-certified. AMLI will grow its portfolio to more than 50 percent LEED-certified in the near future. In 2017, AMLI received two awards from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC): the Outstanding Multi-Family Developer LEED Homes award for its outstanding leadership and innovation in the residential green building marketplace, and the LEED Power Builder award, which recognizes developers that certify at least 90 percent of their units built in the past year.
