Minister Duncan to Cheer on Team Canada at the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018
The Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science and Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities, will visit South Korea next month
GATINEAU, QC, Feb. 1, 2018 /CNW/ - From February 5 to 12, 2018, the Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science and Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities, will travel to PyeongChang in South Korea to attend the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018.
While at the Games, Minister Duncan will attend the opening ceremony, cheer on Canadian athletes at various events, visit Canada House and the Athletes' Villages, and participate in bilateral meetings.
The Government of Canada is the single largest investor in Canada's sport system, providing funding for initiatives to support our high-performance athletes and to promote sport participation among all Canadians, especially our young people.
Support for the sport system involves many partners, including the Government of Canada, provincial and territorial governments, the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Committees, national sport organizations, national multisport services organizations, the Canadian Sport Centres/Institutes and the private sector.

The Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 will take place from February 9 to 25, 2018.
This will be the second time South Korea will welcome the world's greatest athletes, having previously hosted the Summer Olympics and Paralympics in Seoul in 1988.
All Canadian athletes at the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 are among the approximately 1,900 individuals who receive support from the Government of Canada's Athlete Assistance Program.
Last summer the Government of Canada announced $5 million in annual funding, matched by the private sector, to support the development of Canada's next generation of Olympians and Paralympians.
