Media Advisory - Walk for Memories 2018


TORONTO, Jan. 30, 2018 /CNW/ - The Alzheimer Society of Toronto kicks off its annual Walk for Memories to raise awareness around a disease that continues to affect more Canadians each year and much-needed funds for the Society's programs and services. NHL hockey legend Darryl Sittler will make a special appearance at the opening ceremonies to share his personal connection to Alzheimer's. There will also be plenty of entertainment, including performances by the Regent Park School of Music and Lippert Music Centre.

Saturday, February 3, 2018, 8:30 am to 12 noon. Mr. Sittler will speak at 10 am.

ABOUT DARRYL SITTLER:
Darryl Sittler spent 11.5 years of his 15 NHL seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs and was later inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame and Canada's Walk of Fame. Sittler is well known for his community work.

ABOUT WALK FOR MEMORIES
Walk for Memories is Canada's largest in-door walk in support of Alzheimer's disease and dementia. Participants walk 2.2 km through Toronto's PATH.

The event attracts over 2,000 walkers from across the GTA: people living with Alzheimer's disease or another form of dementia, their friends, families and caregivers. This year's goal is to raise $680,000. So far, more than112 youth fundraisers, who'll be on site, have raised approximately $32,000.  

The Alzheimer Society of Toronto serves 46,000 plus individuals with dementia in the GTA through counselling, support groups and therapeutic workshops, and provides education sessions for the public and health professionals.
